GSA Contract Deems FiberTite Best Value Roof for Federal Government

The General Services Administration (GSA) makes it easy for the federal government to go shopping. An acquisition agency, GSA works on behalf of the government to identify "best value" products and services and to negotiate their price. When federal and government agencies, including the military, in all 50 U.S. states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. territories decide to shop for products and services, they turn first to the Federal Supply Schedule, a comprehensive list of state-of-the-art, high-quality commercial supplies and services under contract with GSA. Being on the GSA Federal Supply Schedule also means to buyers: less paperwork.

FiberTite was added to GSA's Federal Supply Schedule as of January 1, 2008. That's good news in a building market where, according to Dun & Bradstreet, 10% of all U.S. buildings that house more than 500 employees are government owned. The government is now also making an effort to focus buying decisions on life cycle cost vs. lowest acquisition cost - a decision that bodes well for FiberTite, a roofing product with a 29-year track record of proven rooftop performance. Further to FiberTite's benefit, all federal agencies have purchasing goals to set aside dollars for businesses categorized as "small businesses" and "veteran owned businesses". Seaman Corporation, manufacturer of FiberTite Roofing Systems, meets the requirements for each of these categories.

Tempting the government to buy FiberTite has never been simpler. For more information about this contract and for assistance finding federal business opportunities, please contact your local FiberTite sales representative .

Warranties: Seeing Beyond the Façade

It's easy to overestimate the value of a warranty, which, in many cases is just a piece of paper used as a marketing tool. Keep in mind that calculating the true cost of any roof should include a thorough assessment of the roof's warranty. After all, the burden of proof usually falls on the shoulders of the owner. Do your homework - it will be well worth your time.

Here are some points to consider:

  1. The most accurate measure of the probability that you'll ever need to file a claim is the historical performance of the product your warranty covers. Does the roofing system have a product life history that is at least as long as the length of your warranty? If not, ask the manufacturer to explain the basis for their warranted product life.
  2. A warranty is only as good as the people who stand behind it. Will they still be around as long as the warranty lasts? What kind of service do they offer? Big or small manufacturer, nothing is more important than their integrity and proven commitment to service and product performance.
  3. Is the warranty pro-rated and does it exclude common conditions such as ponding water, hail, oil and grease? If so, be sure to factor into your buying decision the potential for future expenditures to cover loss of production time, damaged inventories, and repair or replacement of a failed roof.
  4. Does the warranty include clear definitions for wind speed? This could be a point of contention in the event of a failure. Note: many warranties exclude high winds with speeds above gale force, or 39 mph.
  5. Are previous customers satisfied? For roofing systems, customer satisfaction with regard to warranty claims is a critical piece of the buying equation. Request references - and check them.

FiberTite's roof warranty commitments amount to far less than one-half of one percent of our annual sales - that is the lowest level in the industry. To understand the details of the FiberTite warranty, contact a representative near you. We welcome your close scrutiny of our credentials.

Since 1979, when first installed, more than 99% of all FiberTite roofs across the U.S. are still protecting buildings.

You can't look at your roofing options through rose-colored glasses.
